So, each province has its own Minister of National Education. And he is responsible for primary, secondary and high school education and training programs.

TERTIARY EDUCATION

It’s now the moment to talk about college and university for those students who want to continue their studies. But first it’s important to understand the differences between those two paths.

  • Colleges

If you want to apply to college, be aware that it includes full-time and part-time diploma. There are certificate programs, in the field of applied art and technology.

Rather than university, it leads to a more professionalizing path, more carrier-oriented.

Specifically, what it means? Well, it means that you can obtain your certificate program in 1 year or less. While a diploma in 2 or 3 years. For making that possible, they offer a more practical programs or hand-on-training.

  • Universities

As below written, after college you receive a diploma. Instead, after university you achieve a degree: undergraduates (bachelor’s degree) and graduate (Master’s and doctoral) degree.

In that path you can choose many programs. As a matter of facts, normally, universities receive funding from Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development. But, each institution is, then, self-organized and regulated.

As a consequence, each university offers its own admission program.

College takes approximately 1-2 years of study, while the university 3-4 years to complete, if you study full-time.

Besides, a honours degree  (the fourth year) is required if you want to do a graduate program (Master’s degree). But, many universities allow to combine subjects areas into a ‘double major’ (for example Chemistry and Biology).
